The Erste Bank Open in the Wiener Stadthalle is the annual tennis highlight in the Austrian sporting calendar. Stars from Andre Agassi to Thomas Muster, Dominic Thiem and Alexander Zverev have been coming together in Vienna since 1974.

From October 19 to 27, 2024, the eyes of sports fans will be on the Erste Bank Open. A great tennis spectacle is guaranteed again this year in the Wiener Stadthalle and at the Erste Bank Open 2 Go on the grounds of the Vienna Ice Skating Club on Heumarkt!

"It went great across the board," tournament director Herwig Straka summed it up aptly. "We had a record year last year. It was hard to imagine surpassing that again, but we did it. We changed the design together with Erste Bank, and this has generated positive feedback worldwide. In addition, the tournament went extremely well in sporting terms with the four top players in the semi-finals and the 'Erste Bank Open 2 Go' also developed very well. The crowd there was bigger than in previous years, and on Thursday it was incredible. Of course, we are delighted when this concept works so well. With 73,000 spectators this year, we were able to increase our attendance compared to last year and we are proud of that. I would also like to thank my team, who once again did a great job," said Straka.

As far as the field of participants for next year is concerned, everything is still open, according to Straka. "I'm very keen for Jannik Sinner to play here again and, of course, Carlos Alcaraz is also an option for us. Our aim is to get the best players to come to Vienna for the Erste Bank Open. The next generation is on the rise and plays with incredible intensity, as we saw in Sinner's matches against Ben Shelton or Andrey Rublev. We will keep a close eye on developments and see what happens between now and the spring," added Straka.

"It was another fantastic tournament. The matches during the week have shown that there is interest regardless of whether an Austrian player goes far or not. This also shows the euphoria among the population that such an event can take place here. We also had our own activities for children, which are particularly important to me. After all, it's also about getting children and young people interested in sport, and this is a unique opportunity to do so. The changes in the Wiener Stadthalle also went down well, it looked great on site and on TV. This is an advertisement for our great city. I am delighted that everything worked so well," emphasized City Councillor for Sport Peter Hacker.

"It was wonderful to see all the happy faces this week. That is something that characterizes the Wiener Stadthalle. I would like to thank Herwig Straka and his team as well as the Stadthalle team. It's incredible that they manage to go one better every year, so I'm already looking forward to next year," said Stadthalle Managing Director Matthäus Zelenka.
