From the West End to a worldwide phenomenon! MAMMA MIA! is Judy Craymer's ingenious interpretation of the timeless ABBA songs in the form of a cheerful and funny story of a mother, a daughter and three potential fathers on an idyllic Greek island.
The performances in Germany and Austria celebrate the 25th anniversary of MAMMA MIA! since its premiere in London in April 1999, and to date MAMMA MIA! is the third longest running musical in London's West End with over 10 million viewers. MAMMA MIA! has been seen by more than 65 million viewers in 50 productions and in 16 different languages. In 2011, MAMMA MIA! was the first musical in the Western Hemisphere to be performed in Mandarin in the People's Republic of China. MAMMA MIA! went on to become the eighth longest running show in Broadway history, where it ran for a record-breaking 14 years.
Since its premiere in London's West End, the world's most spectacular and entertaining musical has been breathed new life into two highly successful film adaptations. MAMMA MIA! the 2008 film produced by Judy Craymer became the most successful musical of all time after its release and the second film, MAMMA MIA! HERE WE GO AGAIN from 2018 is the most successful live musical movie sequel of all time.
The music and lyrics of MAMMA MIA! were written by Benny Andersson & Björn Ulvaeus. The screenplay was written by Catherine Johnson, directed by Phyllida Lloyd and choreographed by Anthony Van Laast. The production was conceived by Mark Thompson, the lighting design by Howard Harrison, the sound design by Andrew Bruce & Bobby Aitken and the music direction, additional material and arrangements by Martin Koch.
