For over three decades, Canadian artist Loreena McKennitt has explored the many aspects of Celtic music. Seemingly effortlessly, she combines instrumental as well as vocal perfection and emotion into a costume of sound that enchants the listener. The passionate globetrotter will present herself on a European tour in spring 2024.
Loreena McKennitt will be accompanied on this concert tour by four of her longtime companions: Caroline Lavelle (cello), Brian Hughes (guitar), Hugh Marsh (violin) and Dudley Phillips (bass). The focus is on her internationally acclaimed album "The Visit", released in 1991. With it, she attracted the attention of the music world, which she has maintained for decades.
Her acclaimed performances are composed of music and narration inspired by Loreena McKennitt's exotic tracing of Celtic history. For example, songs are combined with mystical Irish poems by Yeats and Keats, as well as texts by classic writers such as Shakespeare and Tennyson. Intimacy interwoven with personal, inspirational narratives characterize Loreena McKennitt's concerts. Trademarks are and remain her crystal clear soprano voice and her versatility as an instrumentalist on harp, piano and bandonion.
Loreena McKennitt's eclectic, Celtic blend of pop, folk and world music has sold over 14 million albums worldwide, more than 1.6 million of them in Germany. An astonishing triumph of musical poetry. Her recordings achieved gold, platinum and multiplatinum status in 15 countries on four continents. She was a two-time Grammy nominee and has won two Canadian Juno Awards and the Billboard International Achievement Award.
As a musical ambassador, she represented Canada around the world, writing film scores and performing within countless meaningful festivals. In 1985, she produced her first album with her savings and started her own record label. Since then, as one of the few truly independent artists, she alone decides on song selection, production, design and distribution of her material.
