offMUSICAL presents the German premiere of the Broadway hit MEMPHIS
Four years after its founding, the Frankfurt-based musical start-up offMUSICAL is once again making a statement for modern musical theater, presenting the German-language premiere of the award-winning musical MEMPHIS, which has been celebrated by audiences and press alike. Explosive dances, irresistible rock'n'roll songs and a gripping story of fame and forbidden love. Inspired by true events, Memphis tells the unprecedented story of a white radio DJ who wants to change the world and a black club singer who is willing to leave everything behind for her big break.
MEMPHIS has won 4 Tony Awards (including Best Musical, Best Music, Best Book), 4 Drama Desk Awards (including Best Musical, Best Music), 2 Olivier Awards and the WhatsOnStage Award in the "Best New Musical" category, making it one of the most successful Broadway musicals of all time.
offMUSICAL now presents the world's very first new production in German and brings the underground dance clubs of MEMPHIS to Germany and Austria in May 2022.

The Story of MEMPHIS
When white radio host Huey Calhoun plays black music from the underground clubs of Memphis on the radio for the first time, an outcry goes through the USA. But Huey fights for his vision of making "rock'n'roll" known nationwide - for the love of music and the black club singer Felicia. Their relationship causes a scandal and even turns their friends and families against them. When both are finally promised a great music career, they have to decide: Do they swim with the tide of white America or stand up for what they believe in? A decision that should change the music world forever...
