80 Years of Elton John: The “Rocket Man” Takes Off Again and Celebrates with a Biopic Stage Premiere in 2027

Just in time for Sir Elton John’s 80th birthday on March 25, 2027, "Rocket Man – The Elton John Biopic" will celebrate its world premiere in Cologne. The new stage production will then embark on a major tour of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland beginning in May.

On March 25, 1947, Reginald Kenneth Dwight was born in Pinner, a suburb of London. From the early 1970s at the latest, he had established himself as one of the most flamboyant figures in the world of pop music. The British singer, pianist, and composer has sold more than 300 million records, making him one of the five best-selling recording artists of all time worldwide.

Elton John is also one of the few artists to have won all of the major entertainment awards in the United States: multiple Grammys (his first in 1987 for the song “That’s What Friends Are For”), two Oscars (his first in 1995 for the song “Can You Feel the Love Tonight”), a Tony Award (in 2000 for the musical Aida), and an Emmy (in 2024 for the concert special Elton John: Farewell from Dodger Stadium).

His repertoire ranges from ballads and rock and rock ’n’ roll songs to gospel-infused blues and boogie numbers. He achieved his first successes in the 1960s, but his breakthrough came in 1970 with the album Elton John, whose song “Your Song” became an international hit.

The two-hour musical tribute "Rocket Man – The Elton John Biopic", created by acclaimed producer Oliver Forster (including FALCO – The Musical, That’s Life – The Sinatra Musical, and Beat It! – The Show About the King of Pop), combines biographical storytelling with spectacular concert moments in an impressive stage production.

"Rocket Man" is far more than a tribute show — it is a deeply moving and captivating homage to one of the greatest icons in music history. Elaborate projections, authentic costumes, and an electrifying concert atmosphere bring Elton John’s world to life, combining to create an extraordinary theatrical experience.
