After the great successes of the past years, Lukas Perman will present the rock opera around Easter 2026 in a new “look,” starring the dream team Drew Sarich and Serkan Kaya in the leading roles.

Jesus Christ Superstar – the only rock opera by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber with lyrics by Tim Rice – was and remains a milestone in the history of musical theatre and one of the greatest musical successes worldwide.
Since its premiere in 1971 and especially through the legendary 1973 film adaptation, Jesus Christ Superstar has become a recurring hit that has thrilled millions of people around the world – and continues to do so today. Unique songs such as I Don’t Know How to Love Him, Gethsemane, and Heaven on Their Minds are classics that almost everyone knows. Tim Rice’s lyrics, drawing on liturgical traditions, combine with the immortal music to immerse the audience in the life of Jesus of Nazareth in a deeply emotional way.

Lukas Perman first brought this rock classic to the stage in 2024. Due to overwhelming demand, it was revived in 2025. Now, in 2026, this extraordinary piece will be presented in a new aesthetic! Beloved stars Drew Sarich and Serkan Kaya will reunite after many years as Jesus and Judas on one of Vienna’s largest stages. The two acclaimed performers last appeared together in this masterpiece back in 2008.

Star cast 2026 – The revival of a dream team: Drew Sarich & Serkan Kaya

The title role of Jesus in this semi-staged concert version will be performed by celebrated Jesus interpreter Drew Sarich.
The American-born performer has long been based in Vienna and is internationally recognized from leading roles in the German-speaking world (Hair, Tanz der Vampire, Rudolf, etc.), as well as from his appearances on both the West End and Broadway.

The role of the antagonist Judas will be played by musical and TV star Serkan Kaya.
Viennese audiences know him well as the legendary Lucheni in Elisabeth, as Galileo in We Will Rock You, and from earlier concert productions of Jesus Christ Superstar as Judas. In recent years, he has also established himself as a celebrated film and television actor in Germany, receiving multiple awards including the Grimme Prize and the German Acting Award in 2021.

The musical direction will be in the expert hands of Christian Frank, a long-established specialist in the genre in Vienna. The 11-piece band, made up of top-class professionals, guarantees musical excellence.
